Jonathan Toews, the second youngest captain to win the Cup

Jonathan Toews has come under the bigger news suddenly and this happened due to the win of the Blackhawks who grabbed the Stanley Cup after 49 years. Almost three months back, Joathan had played a vital role in helping Canada emerge as a winner of Olympic gold medal in Vancouver. And yesterday (Wednesday), he bagged his first Stanley Cup championship and then got announced victorious of the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP.

Toews has tied Denis Savard’s franchise record and ended up second in the NHL in playoff scoring with 29 points just one behind the Philadelphia Flyer’s Danny Briere. Jonathan Toews, the excited 22 years old player said that it was like a commercial and he was simply speechless.

Joel Quenneville, his coach, on the other hand appeared much enthusiastic with praiseworthy words about the great player, saying, “Jonathan Toews is a great human being, a worthy player in the Olympics and the super one for us in the playoffs. The bigger the setting, the bigger the game, the bigger he appears to go higher to that challenge and that occasion. He was simply big tonight.”

Jonathan’s 22 assists broke Savard’s playoff record. He had 26 points in 16 games stepping into the final. Although he was held without a goal in the series, Toews picked up an assist of the Blackhawks’ last two wins. Previously in the playoffs, Jonathan Toews posted a 13 game point streak from the time range of April 22 to May 23 beating out Stan Mikita’s franchise record.

In NHL’s entire history so far, Jonathan appeared the third youngest to wear the C when he was pronounced the captain of the Chicago’s team. In addition to that Jonathan Toews has another record of being the second youngest skipper to win the Cup after the Pittsburgh Penguins’ Sidney Crosby who won at the age of 21 last year.
