Larry Drew, the ultimate choice for Atlanta Hawks

Atlanta Hawks have had interviewed Avery Johnson, Dwane Casey and Mark Jackson but they were poised to have Larry Drew as their next head coach.

It seems quite a logical decision by Atlanta Hawks to promote their assistant coach who has been doing well under Mike Woodson. Mike Woodson left his position after six seasons with Atlanta.

It is also reported that front office at Atlanta Hawks felt the need of new leadership when they ended up with a second round sweep and their ultimate choice was but Larry Drew, who was quite familiar with the players.

The Atlanta choice would be made official next week.

Larry Drew, 52 is former point guard who played in NBA for 10 seasons and assisted the Los Angeles Lakers, Washington, New Jersey and Detroit before he joined Woodson in Atlanta.

The Atlanta Hawks has shown a consistent progress under Woodson but their poor performance against Magic in the playoffs made Sund, the GM of the franchise to turn his head to someone else.

Sund said that Woodson has been with the team for six years, double of a coach’s shelf life, and he was the only voice most of the players have heard, I went for my compelling thought of change believing that sometimes in sports a change is better not only for individual but also for organization.

Though it is a hard decision to make, it can go either way right or wrong.

Larry Drew’s hiring would be welcomed by players as they would love to have a familiar face around them at the same time giving them opportunity of re-sign Joe Johnson while smoothing rest of the roster.
