Spirit Airlines Strike

The pilots and the management have entered the final round of negotiations to avoid Spirit airlines strike. The pilots had threatened to go on strike from Saturday if their pay was not raised to an equal level to those of Jetblue pilots. The airline has pledged to continue operations even if the pilots go on strike. They have made alternate arrangements with other carriers to continue operations. It is not clear whether the company will manage to fly all the scheduled flights or will opt for partial flights in the wake of Spirit airlines strike.

The insiders have claimed that the company has offered “double digit percentage” increase in pay to the pilots who have been asking for a raise since three years. The pilots have displayed warnings on billboards to alert the customers about a possible strike to begin on 12th June. Thousands of passengers will suffer from the Spirit airlines strike as the company has already cancelled some flights. Some passengers told the press that the airlines didn’t

bother to inform the passengers about he cancelled flights and they haven’t made any alternative arrangements. The company had stopped selling tickets on Thursday that implies that they haven’t any alternative arrangements. Spirit airlines strike will destroy the company’s credibility and the competitors are sure to get a boost.

The ‘National Mediation board’ is directing the negotiations at Washington. The airline is based in Florida and claims to a “ultra low cost carrier” as some of its tickets start from nine dollars.
