Though until now many have gotten the theatrical trailer of the movie, the comparison of the original one and present is underway. The original Karate Kid featuring young Ralph Macchio with Pat Morita was set in California whereas present movie takes you to the Far East, the land of Karate.
The plot revolve around 12 year old, fatherless Dre Parker who moves to an alien land with his single mother Raraji P. Henson who makes a career move from Detroit to Beijing but Dre finds himself in a rather enemy land where every thing from language to customs to chopstick is unfamiliar not mentioning his bully classmate Cheng with whom Dre develops an enmity but at the same time he finds himself accompanied by a friend the violin player Mei Ying.
In the wake of regular scuffle between Dre and Cheng, Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) comes as rescuer and mentor who teaches Dre the art of Kung Fu in a traditional way and rest is history that we have had witnessed in every other Chinese movie, tough training sessions and all that fly catching skits. Then comes the final combat between Dre and Chang. Well, guess who wins?
To bring movie to the sanctioned Dre-Cheng battle, you have to sit on your seat for two and a half hours that seems too long to tell this short story. However, Karate Kid seems an appealing reboot of the original.
Jaden Smith has shown his athletic prowess as well as his inherited acting talents while Jackie Chan has portrayed a subdued performance with surprising grace and charisma while Taraji P Henson is gives the support to each of the lead role.
