The Little Missouri River swelled to 20 feet causing the tragedy at the camp ground according to the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management.
The spokesperson from the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management further added that the number of campers is yet unknown.
The television footage shows how the fierce water waves turned the otherwise a calm and cool camping site into rubble with vehicles turned over and mobile homes and cabins turned into debris.
Last night got a significant amount of rain and water level along the campsites rose quickly, said the Arkansas State Police spokesperson Bill Sadler.
The State Emergency Operations Centre said that search and rescue operations are underway not confirming the presence of children at the site and addling that they are unable to confirm the ages of the victims.
One of the evacuees, Joe Yoakum said that he was staying in the area with his family in the cabin and water came all the way up to their beds. He was among few that were evacuated before water can threat them. Another eye witness said that he saw dead cows floating in the water.
