Mother Mold

An inflexible and firm mother mold has the function of holding rubber or liquid mold in it during the process called casting. Since, it has to be rigid so various kinds of materials are used to prepare it bus usually Plaster of Paris is preferred. The Plaster of Paris come in different forms including pasti paste, shell ultracal, plaster with burlap, shell shock and plaster gauze.

You can easily make the mother mold at home, which will save you the purchasing by ten to twenty dollars. The mother mold acts as a rigid bowl of oval or round shape, which is used for filling in clay material during sculpturing and crafting. What you need to do it first get a special paper roll sheet which is designed for this purpose or a simple muslin cloth can be used instead. Cut the cloth or sheet into four square sheets of equal size. Dip them in water till it soaks completely. Take it out and

let it dry for a few minutes. Then it is your turn to take a mold made of plastic and fit in the piece whose image you want to be imprinted on the clay and cover it with clay.

Place it in such a way on the table that the mold faces down the table. Then cover the bulging side of the mold with the soaked sheets while pressing them firmly. Add more layers if necessary. It will stick to the shell in some time. Then invert it and take the rubber mold out which will be having the impression of the stuffed article on it.
