Samsung Rugby 2 is a brand new cell phone that’s targeted to be tough, really tough. As the name implies it is best suited for rugby players in the sense that it can withstand dust, shocks, rain, vibration, humidity and thermal shock. Samsung even says that it could resist solar radiation; although the meaning of this statement is a little vague as in what kind of solar radiation are we exactly talking about? Is it the UV rays or some other radiation? If the phone is resistant to UV rays then I’m not sure if it’s a very great achievement because I’ve never heard of any cell phone getting skin cancer. Well apart from that “useful” feature the phone is tough. The form factor is flip and a lot of flip phones are not sports oriented, but the Rugby 2 fits the profile perfectly.
Apart from its physical fitness, the Rugby 2 is a fantastic phone with a host of features that any mid range phone has, like a 2 megapixel camera, A-GPS support, 70MB built in memory, a micro SD card slot and 3G connectivity. The main display is 2.2 inches with the standard 240×320 pixels. There is also an external LCD that’s monochrome. The phone also features class 10 GPRS and EDGE. With 240×320 resolution the Rugby 2 could support a wide variety of Java applications supported by the Java MIDP 2.0 runtime software integration.
All in all it’s a great phone with great functions, just a lack of radio, but other than that it has really good functions, and the toughness that’s bound to make it a favorite of every tough guy out there.
