It began as a small gathering of people displaying their art but now it has transformed as the town’s one of the most prestigious event. Since 1959 this event was decided to take place in the second week of June. The weekend of this week after that year is the official Art Festival.
This festival gained popularity in 1960s when it was transformed from a small art festival to a huge carnival kind of celebration in which people not only displayed art but also enjoyed food, sidewalk performances and fashion shows. Today not only neighborhood fellows attend this festival but people form international platforms attend as well as participate in this art festival. This year more then 450 artists will be displaying their art work in this festival. These artists were selected from around 800 to one thousand applicants who submitted applications to participate in the festival.
Mary Myszkiewics, who is the president of Allentown art festival society, announced that this year’s price money will be $21,000 and $20,000 respectively. Also 10% of the profits will be donated for Art Scholarships and welfare of Greater Buffalo community. This year’s festival will start from Saturday June 12th till Sunday June 13th.
