Charlotte’s Web

The award winning novel Charlotte’s web (written by E.B. White) was published in 1952. The novel is quite popular with kids and is included in syllabus of some schools. The novel is now considered to be a classic. An animated movie based on the charlotte’s web was produced in 1976 by ‘Hanna-Barbara productions’. The author was not quite happy with the movie as the story was distorted with a lot of songs.

Another movie was produced in 2006 by Paramount pictures. The 2006 movie won critical acclaim and positive ratings. A video game was also developed with the same name and story line.

Charlotte’s web is a story of a pig that was to be killed at birth because of its small size but is saved by Fern Arable. She names it Wilbur and keeps it as a pet. After some weeks she is asked to deliver it to his uncle’s

house to be cooked for dinner. A grey spider named Charlotte comes to the aid of Wilbur and convinces the Zukerman family to keep it alive. She weaves special names for Wilbur in her web (the reason the novel was named charlotte’s web) to impress the family. Wilbur is sent to a fair to participate in a contest where Charlotte delivers an egg-sac. Charlotte dies at the fair and Wilbur brings the egg-sac back to his barn. Nearly 500 spiders emerge from the sac and three of them live with Wilbur as his friends. The movie was awarded the ‘best family film award’ by the critics.
